Since islam development, it was received as a culture acommodation. Because as religion, islam has a values or norms that behave in life especially in society relation. A norms that behave in society become a costum which cause a tradition. So, in this concept, an own function of Islam is as a construct and a reality culture. Talking about culture is always related to tradition which is become a little part of culture. Tradition has a smaller scope than a culture and on the contrary a culture has a larger scope than a tradition. A culture is very difficult to be changed and destroyed but it can be changed by own society. So, the main point of culture is a habit or costum that take root in self-society.
Islam as a construct of culture is an interpretation of itself. It means that an interpretation that related to basic theory. In a spesific discussion, this interpretation explain about Aqidah and Muamalah construct. A local tradition is a regions that there is under influence of Islam. This tradition include some elements that there is in the definition of culture like a concepts or norms, activities, human action and creations that resulted by society because the real culture is human artificial. As a norm, rule, or all of activities of Indonesian people, Islam becomes a pattern of peoples belief. In this context, Islam has a function as a religion all at once as a culture of Indonesian people without destroying a local cultures that there is in society even this culture still continued and developed as a way of Islam spreading.
In other term, a process of acculturation between Islam and Local Culture called by genius local, that is an ability to absorb with selection organizing and active processing toward an influence of foreign culture until can reach a unique new creation that nothing in an own region that can affect their cultures. In other hand, genius local has a characteristics like: it has a capability to hold out, accommodate and integrate some elements of other culture to own culture and it has a capability to restrain and give a direction for next culture expansion.
A local cultures that acculturate with Islam like agenda of ceremonial meal after 7, 40,100, 1000 day of death in Java ethnic. In level of art, we also found an acculturation process like a puppet show in Java. Puppet is a traditional art of Java ethnic that come from Hindu religion in India. Islamization process not destroye this art even they enrich it by giving an islam values. In other word, invaded of Islam in Archipelago in a spesific level give a big contribution in developing local culture.
In a physical, culture acculturation like a shape of Agung Mosque Banten that have a lodging roof, stony thick, and anothers refer to a local characteristics while essence of islam lies on spiritual function of that mosque. Thus the two kind of temple and paduraksa gate as symbol in Keraton Karbon Mosque. In other hand, there is foreign something that appear clearly in complex of Agung Mosque Banten that is by founding of Timah building with Portugis, Lucazs Cadel architecture and founding of tower form of gabare that related to the name of Chinese Cek-Ban Cut”.
In the next development, Banten become a big city such as told in Banten history. An own Banten Palace furnished by a structures which indicate a prototype of place that striped Islam in Java, such as in Cirebon, Yogyakarta and Surakarta. A Kingdom of Banten and Cirebon have a role as a center of international trade with a metropolitan characteristics where an inhabitant not only include of local inhabitant but also there is a group of villages from a new comers like Pakoja, Pecinan, and an area for European people like England, French, etc.
In a harmony level, Islam in Banten still give a same position for other religionist like all of muslim ruler in Banten showed a good tolerance to anothers by allowing of Nunnery and Church founding around residence of Chinese and European even by regiment of non- muslim that join to oversee a ruler of Banten. At that time, a good appreciation or treatment of Bantens ruler toward other religionist also witnessed in other region in Archipelago especially in trade aspect. A ruler of Islam in all sort of split Archipelago made a trade relationship with Chinese, Indian etc although between them have a different conviction.
An aspect from acculturation of local culture with islam religion also can be known in Sundas culture that is in vocal art that called as Beluk 10 art. In this art, someone read a story about attitude or character of the prominent figure of that story. Frequently, this concept comes from local culture of pre-Islam that combined with other substance of islam like Ugin concept that tell about human that have a high personality. This art commonly held on Tasyakuran or Selamatan like 4th day baby birth commemoration ( Aqiqah), 7th month pregnancy commemoration (Tingkeban), Khitanan and anothers. Another acculturation that happened in Archipelago also there is in another region of Java like Sumatera Barat, Aceh, Makassar, and Kalimantan. While in Sumatera Utara this acculturation process can be known in some agendas like Upah-upah, Tepung Tawar, and Marpangir.
